Madonna Aeschlimann    1

Madonna Aeschlimann began painting the “Manitoulin Barn Series” after her recent move to the Island as a way to connect with her new home. Madonna graduated from OCAD in 1997 and has worked and shown regularly in a variety of media in Ontario and B.C.

Marcie Breit’s paintings reflect the beauty that is so pervasive in the Northern Ontario landscape. Inspired by the scenic diversity of Manitoulin and the North Channel, she incorporates aspects of these locations in her watercolour, acrylic and pastel works.

Fay Reid is an artist from Scotland. Although she enjoys painting scenes of Scotland, her first love is the SRA and Slips. Come and see her Scottish landscapes and seascapes. She works in watercolours, acrylics and pen and ink.

Bob Blaney is an avid amateur photographer, specializing in landscapes and other natural phenomena. He has had a passion for photography since his teenage years. Five years ago, he made the switch from film cameras to Nikon Digital SLRs. He is a retired Networking and Computer Specialist.

Dougal Bichan and Joyce Young    3

Dougal Bichan photographs the images he sees in nature. He has exhibited in the Gore Bay Museum. An avid white-water canoeist, Dougal captures the raw energy of rushing rapids and the tranquility of a misty sunrise.

Joyce Young, AOCAD, addresses landscape and spirit, animals and portraiture in watercolour, hand-made paper collage and oil painting. Young selects her media to fit the idea. Her work hovers between representation and an exploration of shape and colour.

Blue Jay Creek Art Farm    4

This distinctive Art Farm offers an enchanting mixed-media gallery in a cedar grove, a Garage Gallery with visiting and resident artists on hand, a healing-herb Chartres-style Labyrinth, and two sunset concerts featuring giant gongs, quartz crystal bowls and vibraphone. The concerts by David Hickey begin at sunset. Feel free to bring lawn chairs, cushions and blankets.

Marc Brzustowski, a Montreal artist, is an engagingly old-fashioned painter who sets up his easel in the streets like the French Impressionists did. The result is the vast number of delectable little oil panels he has created in many places throughout the world. He has a remarkable way with light and atmosphere

David Hickey has toured Canada extensively for 7 years and recently returned from a tour of Israel. David is very excited to be performing two sunset concerts for the Manitoulin Art Tour in celebration of the Conscious Convergence of the ancient Mayan Long Count Calendar.

Nancy McDermid has been painting for over 25 years. New works will include oil and acrylic interpretations of gardens and nature.

Erin-Blythe Reddie is offering her interpretations in original watercolour art cards, although in the past she has represented natural elements using textiles. These cards make beautiful gifts in themselves and are perfect for framing.

Brandon Watson will also be featured at this gallery.

Brenda and Brian Chapman    6

Brenda Chapman paints local landscapes, floral and figures in watercolour. She endeavours to express her view of Manitoulin in her work displayed at home and in Turner’s gallery.

Brian Chapman works in watercolour, line and wash, oil, acrylic and coloured pencil. He interprets local boating scenes and landscapes and enjoys portraits of jazz musicians.

Richard Edwards paints Manitoulin Island and landscapes of the north. This summer come to Edwards Studios and Art Gallery, located in the village of Kagawong on the North Channel (open May to Oct), to visit his new art work.

Terry Gordon, proprietor of Gordon’s Park Eco Resort on Manitoulin Island, recently discovered his passion for painting with acrylics. He is surprised by the beauty of nature that surrounds him and loves to paint northern lights, full moons, monarch butterflies, apple blossoms, sunsets, winter scenes and landscapes.

Natasha Harfield has been making beaded jewellery since she was a young girl and has recently started selling original pieces at local farmers’ markets. She makes a variety of different necklaces, bracelets and earrings to suit every woman’s unique personal taste.

Dan Hawke is a self-taught artist who lives on Manitoulin Island. His style is mostly impressionist. He has been in three shows. His work is mainly acrylic, oils and pen and ink.

Ursula Hettmann    11

Ursula Hettmann was born in Germany and started an apprenticeship before she moved to Canada. The solitude of Dominion Bay influences her life and her work. She opens her studio in the summer to show what she created during the quiet winter months.

Linda Jack’s inspiration comes from Manitoulin’s landscapes as well as from her love of nature and animals. She works in watercolour, oil and acrylics and a love of photography has provided her with a never-ending stream of subject matter to be inspired by.

John Knox has been photographing nature and the environment for over 30 years. His stunning images take you on a journey around the world. “John is a visual poet. His photographs are consistently evocative; rich with metaphor.”

Lorraine Loranger has been refining her art since she was a child living in the far northern region of Ontario. Since retiring she concentrates on diverse pieces including portraits, wildlife portraits in lead/mixed mediums as well as northern sceneries in acrylics.

Linda Williamson has been painting professionally for 16 years. Her art has been accepted in 23 juried exhibitions. Linda’s work can be viewed at Museum London and Sudbury Art Gallery sales/rental programs and Turners of Little Current. Linda will be exhibiting original landscape images.

Ellen Lewis says that figure drawing continues to be a strong interest for her. Experimenting in a wide variety of media has provided Ellen with an artistic expansion after doing classical florals and landscapes. Ellen has been in many juried shows in Grey Bruce and Manitoulin areas.

Lynda F. R. James, Potter. Stoneware pottery in colours of the rainbow for fun and function. “Great art won’t match the couch, but an amazing stoneware casserole will speak to the roasted asparagus!”

Moira Elsley loves the luminosity of watercolour and the myriad of colours in Manitoulin rock. Moira's work has been accepted into the NOAA, La Cloche and other juried exhibitions and honoured by receiving Best of Show, Best Watercolour, People's Choice and Honourable Mention awards.

Leslie Morin has been painting for over 10 years. She strives to capture the beauty of the flowers, birds and natural landscapes of Manitoulin. Last year she received an award for Best Acrylic in the Annual Heritage Alive Exhibit.

Marcus Mohr is an enthusiastic artist born and raised on Manitoulin. He has won 1st and 2nd place for his sculptures in the last two LaCloche Art Shows. His painting subject matter is mostly landscapes and portraits. Don’t miss this up-and-coming artist!

Don Moorcroft finds inspiration for his photography in both nature and urban landscape, particularly with reflections from water and glass. His distinctive photographs have appeared in several juried exhibitions and have garnered a number of awards. He spends summers on ice Lake and winters in London, Ontario

Kathryn Antonio (owner) states that My OL’Blues designs, manufactures, wholesales and retails outerwear and accessories for all ages. Many of their designs have a unique Canadiana feel.

Laurie Campbell is a life long resident of Manitoulin Island. She is a self-taught artist. Her works include watercolour, graphite pencil and wood carving. Laurie gets her inspiration from local surroundings.

Linda Burnett and her daughter Holly opened The Needle Box, a Fabric and Wool shop/Quilt shop, in 1981. Linda states that she has made traditional quilts for 40 years and then 10 years ago she began to do fibre art quilting as well.

Melissa Arp was inspired to start painting again by the beauty of Manitoulin Island. She became fascinated with the topographical view of the island, the shorelines, skies and creatures. Melissa will be exhibiting a brand new series on ‘Manitoulin Cats’.

Heather Thoma works with fibre arts and textiles, in weaving and small quilt art works. Her tapestries and mini-quilts reflect connections with nature, using found objects and integrating text. Heather is part of 4elements Living Arts.

Rebekkah Batman started sewing quite young and likes being able to take fabric with some history and turn it into something new. The jewellery making kind of cropped up as a creative outlet that can be done outside in the summer.

Sophie Anne Edwards is an award-winning artist supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Her palette knife acrylic paintings layer history and culture by integrating text and archival images. Her work will be at the Perivale Gallery for the summer.

Rochelle Neal uses vibrant watercolours to capture the patterns and texture of nature and rustic items. Her studio is nestled in the woods on the west shore of Lake Mindemoya, and provides a unique creative environment for her artistic endeavours.

Lynne Gerard, featured at her Ravenseyrie Studio, is a painter, writer, and calligrapher who combines all these mediums into one art form. She specializes in hanging scrolls, greeting cards, framed and unframed paintings as well as “cave art” style rock paintings.

David Solomon creates decorative boxes from exotic hardwoods and burls, carefully selecting complimentary wood colours and patterns. These woods, all solid and exhibiting natural colours, are often combined with focal pieces obtained from his Manitoulin cottage including spalted maple, crotch maple and crotch ironwood.

Ruta Tribinevicius will be showing lithographic prints, book arts and textile work. Her studio, built within a century-old schoolhouse, offers: lithography, artist residencies, screen printing, fine food, fermentation, organic gardening, eco & social justice, community building, music making and space for multi-media artists, painters, dancers and writers.

Zachary Oshkabewisens is a student at Wasse-Abin High School in Wikwemikong. His chosen art form is Expressionism. Art has captured his interest both as a means of expression and as a subject matter. He produces pieces using oil pastels, oil paint, acrylics, ink and linoleum block prints.

Timberlane Rustic Lodges    29

This lodge provides a casual, private full-service cabin resort with individual rustic cabins. They offer delicious home cooked meals.

Petra Wall has been painting with watercolours for 27 years. Pen and ink drawings and pencil sketches have been favourites. In 1995 rock carving and photography were initiated but Wall has primarily enjoyed the spontaneity and the subtle nature of watercolours.

Robert L. Hunt has been an avid photographer in Canada and world-wide since age 13. He is a member of the Hamilton Camera Club and “print-chair holder” of many honourable mentions. Rob is a winner of the Canada-wide Lions Gate Award.

Zoe McDougall is a retired nurse who lives on Birch Island where she has her own glass workshop. She explores bay shores and dumps for treasures which she incorporates into her artwork. She has moved from city to woods to accomplish all of this…priceless.

Mark Rautiainen, from the Sudbury area, recently discovered his passion for photography. He has always had a keen eye for detail and illustrates this in his work. Mark captures the hidden beauty and shares his appreciation of the story behind every photograph.

Ken Rautiainen began experimenting with photography after retiring. He shares his hobby with his son, taking photography classes and spending time together. One of his favourite places to shoot is Manitoulin Island. He captures cultures, architecture and landscapes of different countries while travelling.

Upstairs at Turners experience one of Canada's oldest family businesses. That has been serving residents of Manitoulin and visitors for over 131 years.

Jon Butler says, “I will continue to peel away the layers until the subject will reveal itself and express the spirit and not just the form.” Jon strives to capture internal feelings and the external harmony of the natural world in La Cloche. The limited series photographs and haiku reflect decades of meditation on light and shadows.
