CONTACT ARTIST

Debra Lynn Ireland lives with her family in Beaver Lake, a small community outside of Sudbury, and enjoys life on Manitoulin Island at her camp. Before the move north Debra lived in Scarborough. She began her art studies of Graphic Design at George Brown College, while also volunteering at the Toronto Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Throughout her life Debra has always had a strong respect for wildlife and curiosity about art, so putting these two loves together was very natural. Now with 30 years of experience as a professional wildlife artist, she is able to enjoy many aspects of this career.

Over the years Debra's art has been awarded and recognized by numerous organizations, including Ducks Unlimited and the Endangered Species Fund of Canada. She is also the illustrator of two children's books, Five Forest Friends and Five Farm Friends. Debra uses acrylic, watercolour and pastel mediums, painting wildlife and a variety of local scenes en plein air.

"Working at a job which I love is very rewarding. As a child I walked the local creeks, looking for wildlife, using my first camera to capture those moments, and as early as I can remember started to draw and paint from those experiences. I found my passion early in my childhood and I'm still able to enjoy it. My best work days are witnessing wildlife in action, capturing that moment, and then recreating it with art in the studio. Loving what you do is never work."
