JANE PALMER (Pastel Artist)Box 319 6166 Hwy. 542 Mindemoya, ON P0P 1S0 705-377-5702 "A move, in 2010 from Toronto to Guelph, I became aware of the established artistic community in the Royal City. From the Canadian Magazine, 'A Needle Pulling Thread' I found a source in Guelph where the artisans did beadwork…With seed beads and silver thread, I was able to create bracelets. Still searching.. I found my niche in 2013 ..painting with soft pastels..With previous instruction at the Ontario College of Art, in colour theory, several courses in black and white photography, and other related courses, at night or on Saturdays…&. later with Botanical drawing and painting at Edwards Gardens, the Toronto Botanical Gardens, my previous learning blended together, painting with soft pastels. This was a natural flow !.. My father, who was an Industrial Arts teacher, was talented with many crafts and with visual arts in the media of soft pastels, oils of landscapes of the Manitoulin and furniture making, his oak chairs and his pine harvest table etc...He also established The Rock and Rail Gift Shop, as his initial vision was to have items handcrafted by Canadians. ! As a primary teacher, in the GTA for 36.5 years, the last 13 were in a multicultural school. Many of the children were ESL ~ learning to speak and write the English language ~ My classrooms were a creative environment, with theme activities related to the curriculum.. storytelling, music, math and painting activities:~ a place to learn and grow in the language.. Delightful children!! As for physical activity ~ years as an avid curler in each position then to second. 'Oh yes, I even used the corn broom!' Enjoyed club bonspiels! Later in Guelph, using the stick to deliver the rock, my curling was curtailed. ! My, almost new, curling shoes were passed onto to a young girl who is excelling in the sport, at a local curling club !.. May 24th 2019, a move to the cottage, where in the midst is a maple woods. This gives me the pleasure to observe the daily changing weather of the seasons... the lake, the birds; a Bald Eagle that perches or flies by or the Barred Owl that hoots, the flora and the morning sunrises…or…to...SNAP !...CLICK !....…to capture a moment in time….….…………….…. Jane... May 28th 2020." |
